Installation Guide for Coocase S28, V28, V36 & S48 base plates
| In this article, we illustrate how to mount a Coocase base plate to the most common types of rear luggage racks. |
|
Coocase base plates can usually be installed the several types of flat rear luggage racks using the included "universal" hardware kit. Rear luggage racks typically fall in several categories:
If your rear luggage rack is not flat, you'll need to either replace it with a flat rear rack or shim up the Coocase plate so it sits flat. If your bike has a sissybar or backrest, you may need to remove it prior to Coocase installation. Otherwise, you may not be able to open your Coocase. See additional images of the small Coocase base plate installed on a Five Stars Tubular Toprack. Mounting large base plate to a rear luggage rack constructed of steel tubes

The second image is the bottom view of an installed S48 Coocase Adapter Plate, and the third image is the top view of the same adapter plate. For topracks with multiple tube diameters, always try to use the largest diameter tubing possible as mounting points for your adapter plate. Space your mounting points as far away from each other as the design of your tubular rack allows, as increasing distance between the mounting points will increase the stability & strength of your adapter plate. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Mounting to rear luggage racks constructed of flat sheet metal (correct method)
The first image is a generic flat sheet metal rear rack without any hardware installed. The second image is the bottom view of an installed V28 / V36 Coocase Adapter Plate, and the third image is the top view of the same adapter plate. The fourth image is the top view of the S48 adapter plate. Try to mount the Coocase base plate as far rearward as possible to maximize passenger space; however, do not mount the plastic plate so that more than 1/3 of it is unsupported by a stable metal surface. Through-bolt the adapter plate directly to a hole in the rear rack that is small enough so that the W-shaped washer and bolt cannot slip out. Mounting to rear luggage racks constructed of flat sheet metal (incorrect method)
Never use W-shaped washers to clamp onto cutouts of flat sheet metal topracks as shown! The image on the left is an example of how NOT to mount your adapter plate. Vibration can cause the W-shaped washers to rotate to the position in the image on the right, which could result in the top plate falling off the rear rack. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Mounting to an SW-MOTECH Alu-RackHere are some shots of the Coocase to Alu-Rack Adapter Plate as it bolts to a typical SW-Motech Alu-Rack:
