BMW K1200RS or K1200GT (-'05) with Coocase S48 topcase

This article shows how to fit ANY Coocase Topcase to the BMW K1200RS or K1200GT.

Also shown are the colors and locations for the running, brake, and ground wires used by the Coocase on this motorcycle.

Items needed to complete this install:

First, install the aftermarket topcase rack.

Once the topcase rack is installed, you are ready to install the Coocase Adapter Kit.

1.] The original BMW rear rack must first be removed.

2.] Remove the two cross-head bolts in the brake light housing. This will allow you to move the light housing out from below the rear luggage rack, providing clearance necessary to remove the three torx bolts from the bottom of the grab bar in step 4.

3.] Remove the two lowest rear torx bolts [one on each side] from the original rear rack.

4.] You will need a low-profile torx bit to reach under the grab bar to remove the 3 torx bolts securing the original rear rack to the grab bar. We accomplished this by holding a torx bit with an adjustable wrench. Long-handled torx wrenches will not be able to reach below this grab bar.

5.] You can now attach the HB-01 plates to the aftermarket topcase rack.

6.] With the original rear rack removed the HB-01 Coocase adapter plates can be installed using the first hole in the series of three on each plate.

7.] Place the Coocase base plate [with the cover off] on top of the HB-01 adapters and locate 4 mounting holes.

8.] Place the bolts into the adjustable washer holes of the Coocase base plate and tighten with the provided nuts.

9.] Alternate view showing the nuts and bolts installed. This finishes the installation of the Coocase base plate. The power wire for the case has been zip tied to the base plate to get the wire out of the way and give a clean look to the install.

10.] You will want to bring the power wire from the base plate forward on the left hand side.

11.] Remove the rear brake light cover to conceal the wire from the base plate.

12.] You are done installing the Coocase base plate. Place the cover back on and replace the brake light lens.

13.] Locate this plug on the right hand fairing and locate these wires: BROWN = GROUND, GRAY W/YELLOW STRIPE = BRAKE, GRAY WITH BLACK STRIPE = RUNNING LIGHT.

14.] Run the red wire with the in-line fuse to the positive terminal on the battery. Be sure to run it neatly before connecting to the battery as it is much harder to conceal once both ends are connected.

15.] Using the Posi-tap connectors provided with the kit, hook up the black lead to the brown wire, the blue wire to the gray with yellow striped wire, and the green wire to the gray with black striped wire.
