SHAD luggage fitting information for SW-MOTECH Alu-Rack topracks & Quick-Lock sideracks

This article provides basic information of SHAD luggage cases and the parts required to fit them to SW-MOTECH Alu-Rack topracks & Quick-Lock sideracks.
As of September 2005, there are 2 models of SHAD sidecases & 10 models of Shad topcases.

SHAD luggage case part numbers all begin with "SH". The numeral that follows the "SH" signifies the volume of the case in liters.

The SHAD mounting system is similar to the design of the Givi Monolock mounting system. SHAD cases and racks are not compatible with any other brands of hardware or racks.

SHAD sidecases cannot be used as topcases. Likewise, SHAD topcases cannot be used as sidecases.

SHAD sidecases:
SH42 - older style (same case for right and left sides), matte black only
SH43 - newer style (left and right side-specific versions). This style has an swappable color plate system.

SHAD topcases:
Small:
SH25, SH29, SH32, & SH32 custom

Medium:
SH39, SH39 custom, & SH37

Large:
SH42, SH44, SH46, & SH48

SHAD topcases have three different styles of mounting plates:
- Small (D1B3PA plate for SH25, SH29, SH32, & SH32 custom)
- Medium (D1B9PA for SH39, SH39 custom, & SH37)
- Large (D1B8PA for SH42, SH44, SH46, & SH48)

All topcases have available light kits. The light kit uses an electrical connection that comes through the SHAD "nose" (in a similar position to the Givi Monokey "nose".

When attaching SHAD sidecases to SW-MOTECH Quick-Lock sideracks, use the SHAD adapter (KFT.00.152.115).

When attaching SHAD topcases to SW-MOTECH Alu-Racks, simply bolt the SHAD plate onto the Alu-Rack. The SHAD light kit can be used with the SW-MOTECH Alu-Rack ONLY if the original SHAD top plate is used.

Installation of the SHAD top plate on the SW-MOTECH Alu-Rack is similar to installation of a Givi universal Monolock plate and may require minor drilling of the top plate and/or Alu-Rack.

SW-MOTECH also offers a SHAD adapter plate for top cases in both metal and plastic versions. We do not currently recommend this plate for the following reasons:
(1) The SW-MOTECH plate retails for $30; the SHAD plate is free with purchase of the topcase;
(2) The SW-MOTECH plastic plate is more flexible than the SHAD plate, offering less stability; and
(3) The SW-MOTECH plate is not compatible with the SHAD light kit.

On the other hand, you can install the SW-MOTECH adapter plate for SHAD topcases using a single (or triple) Quick-Lock. This is much easier than installation of the SHAD plate.

Finally, it should be noted that all SHAD topcases will fit on all SHAD top plates; however, the small and medium SHAD top plates are not strong enough for use with larger top cases.
