Here we have a very detailed article installing the SW-Motech Centerstand to the KLR 650.
John Sawyer, my friend and proprietor of Village Bakers at 4 Charlestown Beach Road in Charlestown, Rhode Island, stopped by for Halloween this year to install an SW-MOTECH centerstand on his new spooky red 2005 Kawasaki KLR650A. Check out our photo tutorial of the installation process! (...and if you get a chance, stop by his bakery on your way to the beach - he makes a mean scone!)

Before starting installation, park the bike on the sidestand, turn off the engine, and let it cool completely.

(1) Lay out all the parts in the centerstand kit as shown and make sure you've got all the pieces.

(5) Install the right sideplate (the one with the spring mount) on the right side of the motorcycle using two replacement screws. Use medium strength liquid threadlocker, but do not fully tighten the bolts yet!

(7) Fully tighten all screws and check to make sure centerstand swings freely. Make sure you torque all bolts to the specifications in your owners manual!

(8) Hold the centerstand in the fully retracted position. Hook one end of the double spring around the mounting point on the right sideplate, then pull the other end onto the centerstand mounting point. Use of a spring puller tool makes the job easy! Once the double spring is attached, the centerstand is ready for use!
