The SW-MOTECH ALU-RACK is a clean looking, stand-alone base system that allows Quick-Release fitment of TraX, Givi and other Topcases, SW-MOTECH luggage racks, or SW-MOTECH Bags-Connection Quick-Lock Tankbags to keep your motorcycle as versatile as you are.

ALU-RACK Topracks are a sturdy and elegant solution for mounting your topcase. Constructed from high-strength, lightweight aluminum for durability, they are bike-specific and shaped to accentuate the lines of your motorcycle. Three mounting points for Quick-Lock fasteners in the center of the ALU-RACK allow attachment of removable adapters to fit most Topcases, an SW-MOTECH Quick-Release Soft Luggage Carrier, or an SW-MOTECH ALU-RACK QUICK-LOCK Tankring for fitting flat-bottom SW-MOTECH Bags-Connection Tankbags such as the QUICK-LOCK EVO Sport Tankbag or the QUICK-LOCK EVO Daypack Tankbag.

I feel like this was done by an intern. The standoffs holding the bracket to the bike rely on spherical washers to correct for the brackets not sitting square on the bike's subframe. Even at the limit of these spherical washers the bracket does not sit square. The nuts provided for attachment to the bike are distorted-style locknuts which are so difficult to thread on that I sourced my own nuts. Two different length screws are provided for no apparent reason as they go through the same thickness material in the bike's subframe. Finally, the bracket is made in three pieces even though it could be made as one single stronger piece. The 4 flat head cap screws that are visible in the product picture hold the three pieces together and are too soft and all vibrated loose after a short ride since they are under pure shear stress. My temporary solution in the parking lot of an auto parts store in the middle of the night was to put red high strength thread lock on all of them and torque them to within a few ft-lbs of rounding the heads out. More appropriately sized hex head bolts would be better, designing the whole unit as one piece instead of three would be the real solution.

On the upside, it is strong enough to hold a large pelican case or the weight of a person. (Posted on 2/26/15)

As an occasional sport-tourer, I have a Givi 45-liter top case that comes in very handy for hauling a lot of stuff, so obviously I needed a rack for it when I bought my new Street Triple 675. There are several options out there, but the SW-MOTECH Alu-Rack struck me as being much more compact and unobtrusive than the others, so I went with it, even though it was quite a bit more expensive than most. It was a relatively easy install. Other than having to drill holes in the rear sub-frame, which seemed a bit drastic, it was a straight-forward process. The rack is very well made, very sturdy and adds only a small mass to the rear of the bike. A great option if you need a rack. (Posted on 7/7/14)
