Constructed of a 4mm-thick aluminum base plate and 3mm-thick side plates for heavy-duty, light-weight protection. Where the base plates and side plates overlap, it forms a riveted 7mm-thick rail for extra rigidity. Base plate includes side protectors that wrap around the engine block to provide both bottom and side protection. Now available in a 2 tone black & silver finish.
Special Note: This item will also fit the KLR650 '87-'07 WITHOUT SW-MOTECH Crash Bars. If you plan to install both the crashbars and the skidplate please use part # MSS.08.347.100 for the '87-'07 models only.Kawasaki KLR 650E Skidplate overview video:
Video review of the SW-MOTECH Kawasaki KLR 650 Demo Bike:
All hardware needed to mount the skidplate is included. Typically installs using basic hand tools. No welding, cutting, or drilling of existing frame or body parts required. Designed to work with OEM components -- we cannot assure fit with aftermarket exhausts or other accessories.
The infamous KLR650 "Doohickey" (the left-side balancer chain tension adjuster) is accessible with the skidplate installed.
The skidplate's front mounting point is hinged so that the skidplate can be pivoted out of the way after releasing the two rear skidplate mount bolts. This makes maintenance and oil changes much faster than with our competitor's non-hinged skidplates.
Designed by Twisted Throttle and produced exclusively for Twisted Throttle by SW-MOTECH.
Special Note: This skid plate CAN be installed WITH Givi TN421 crashbars by using 2 spacers of a reduced thickness of 2mm each on the front bracket. This is number 5 in the parts list of the installation guide at the bottom of this page. A spacer kit is in the works. If you are handy and can remove 2mm from the existing spacers or can get your hands on 2 spacers with these dimensions: OD: 20, ID: 8.2, H: 14, then you are ready to go.

Holly S#@T this skid plate is tough. First Ride with my new skid plate a trip to AR and proved great protection on the Fouch Trail System. The Skid Plate was put through a torture bike ride, in the rocky hills, and river crossings, and proved to work. If i had the factory plastic skid plate i would be calling my insurance company for a new bike. It saved the motor, although suffered major damage. The aluminum is light weight but managed major damage. I will be replacing with a new skid plate. Yes with the same brand, because this thing is tough. I would give 5 stars if the aluminum was a little stronger, but then again i might be replacing a tweaked frame, something has to give. Rivits held perfect. (Posted on 5/13/13)Rating
