Sleek and slim, you can slip nüvi 550 into your pocket or backpack. The user-replaceable, rechargeable lithium-ion battery lets nüvi navigate you on roads or off.
Get Turn-by-Turn Directions
nüvi 550's intuitive interface greets you with two simple questions: "Where to?" and "View Map." Touch the color screen to easily look up addresses and services and get voice-prompted, turn-by-turn directions that speak street names to your destination. It comes preloaded with detailed City Navigator® NT street maps, millions of points of interest (POIs) and features digital elevation maps that show you shaded terrain contours at higher zoom levels. With nüvi 550, you can upload custom points of interest (POIs) and navigate to geo-tagged photos. If you're lost, use the Where Am I? emergency locator to view your exact latitude and longitude coordinates, the nearest address and intersection, and the closest hospitals, police stations and fuel stations.
Navigate Off-Road
Conveniently plug in optional maps on preloaded microSD™ cards for all your off-road adventures (see Maps tab for compatible maps). Add topographic maps to explore the backcountry or load BlueChart® g2 and Inland Lakes marine maps for a great day on the water. The card slot is located inside the waterproof battery compartment, so you don't have to worry about getting it wet. With its high-sensitivity GPS receiver and HotFix™ satellite prediction, nüvi 550 locates your position quickly and precisely and maintains its GPS location even in heavy cover, deep canyons and near tall building and trees.
Expand Your GPS
Navigation is just the beginning. nüvi 550 includes many travel tools, including world travel clock with time zones, currency converter, measurement converter, calculator and more. Show off photos of your excursions with nüvi's picture viewer. Even download geocaches and instructions from Geocaching.com straight to your unit. The 550 features Garmin Lock™, an anti-theft feature, and is compatible with our free Garmin Garage, where you can download custom vehicles that show your location on the map.

Admin note: This is a dedicated thread for discussing the Garmin Nuvi 550 GPS Navigation System for Motorcycles. I bought this after much research and quite a few years using Nuvi car models. I was pleased not having to break the bank on a Zumo that doesn't really add much more in functionality for my needs. With any GPS navigator, learning it's quirks is paramount and mistakes will be made. One thing I have learned to dislike with these things is audible directions. Often they are confusing - keep left, turn left, blah blah! A quick glance at the top command bar and the pink 3D lane indication is all I need to know my status or what turn to make. The routing feature means you can use Mapsource to create all of your rides and ride only on the roads you want. The only thing I wish Garmin would figure out is how to put rte numbers alongside of the local street name. Personally, I could care less about street names if I am on a numbered rte. Mapsource uses the same routing engine as the GPS unit and with a minimum amount of waypoints, will keep you on the route you select. I mounted my unit to a ram ball/arm/mount at the bottom of my windshield and can quickly assess my position and mileage to the next turn or waypoint. With the screen zoomed in I can tell if there is a sideroad coming out beyond the next corner or blind hill. In town or speeds less then 50, audible directions are apparent enough to remind me to look at the command bar and lane direction. However, if you are looking for clear audio bluetooth directions spend another $300 for the Zumo. Or try it my way - really try it, not just imagine it won't work. Mount it in your line of sight so looking at it is not a distraction and you can still see the road. The command bar will show mileage to next turn and what that turn is. What else do you need. Touchscreen works well enough with gloves and why do I need a fuel resistant plastics? A perfect fit anti-glare screen protector can be purchased on Amazon for less then $10. I have over 4000 miles on this unit and couldn't be happier.
