10.26.2007 11:12 » Boris' installation difficulties Erik Stephens
Admin note: This is a dedicated thread for discussing the Givi Top Luggage Rack for V46 Luggage Case.  Note from Mr. Twisted: A couple of months go, a customer named Boris wrote to us about the difficulties he had bolting his Givi E107 toprack onto his V46 topcase.   Essentially, Boris tried to use the paper drilling template that's included with the Givi installation instructions, but despite his best efforts, drilled the four holes in the lid of the topcase in the incorrect positions, resulting in needing to obtain a new lid.   At the time, Boris noticed that there are 4 points pre-molded into the lid of the topcase, and assumed these must have been the correct drilling positions. THIS IS NOT CORRECT. The four points are near the correct drilling positions, but not exactly in the right spots.   The paper drilling template provided by Givi is correct, but it's very difficult to get it to lay flat on the plastic. This often results in one or more of the holes being drilled in the wrong position.   What's the solution? Drill one hole, bolt the toprack to the V46 at that one point, drill a pinhole in the next location, and use a round stone grinding Dremel bit to widen the pinhole so that it matches the real location of the toprack mounting point. Once you've bolted two points into the V46, then drill a third pinhole. Once the third pinhole is lined up, widened, and bolted to the lid, drill a fourth pinhole. You'll need to temporarily remove the toprack from the lid when drilling to avoid knicking the toprack.   Essentially, don't drill all four holes at once. Drill one at a time, and make sure the holes you have drilled already line up with your toprack BEFORE drilling additional holes. It's a bit time consuming, but it can avoid the disappointment of damaging the lid by proceeding too fast.   Please CALL us if you have any questions about installing this part BEFORE drilling any holes.   Best regards, Mr. Twisted
