This particular SW-MOTECH aluminum skid plate engine is constructed of a 4mm-thick aluminum plate that is bent and welded for heavy-duty, and light-weight protection. The sides of the plate wrap around the engine block, including the rear suspension knuckle, to provide excellent side armament. Includes a cut-out for oil drain screw to allow for easy oil changes.

Note: On US Explorer 1200 models the EVAP canister interferes with the fitment of this skid plate. Prior to installation, the EVAP canister must be removed or the skid plate must be cut to allow for clearance (please note that the warranty is void once the skid plate has been modified).

Triumphs own website refers to their OEM skidplate as a "dress up the underside of your Tiger" item. As someone who has punctured a crankcase using the factory supplied plastic item on a KLR I now install the most serious protection that I can find. The well-informed reps at TT steered me away from the Givi item to the SW and now mounted, I can see why. To repeat a theme of my review of the SW upper protection bars, these items have a precision fit that is hard to beat and a mounting system that doesn't just screw into some soft aluminum holes on the lower crankcase. Sturdy brackets attach to the swing arm pivots, upper engine mount and the same mounting points as the OEM lower engine protection guards. All of this requires a fair bit of work to install, not for the very casual owner/mechanic. Instructions could be more detailed so work slowly and refer to the diagrams and parts list frequently. Well worth the investment if you actually plan to ride rougher terrain. (Posted on 7/10/2015)

Installation was a bit tricky, but the skid plate is much thicker than the factory skid plate, and the mounts are much more durable as well. My factory skid plate took a beating on the last trip and left several dings in the headers and cat... (Posted on 8/28/2014)
