I bought this for the reason it was recommended, to give my arthritis in my right hand a break. The description said it worked on the 2017 V-Strom with Barkbusters but only when the package arrived did the label say "not with bar weights." Ugh. Some research on TT and I found that there was no option for a Kaoko that works with Barkbusters with bar end weights.

I wanted to see if I could fit the unit up regardless, so I took off the right side hand guard assembly (I bought the ones that mount to the bar and to the end of the bar - what a fitting nightmare) and removed the Barkbuster mount. I took the bolt from the Barkbuster end mount and found that it was the same thread as the expansion fitting. A test assembly off the bike suggested that I could use the Barkbuster bolt, the BB end weight and then add the Kaoko unit. Now to put it all together.

I took the Kaoko as it came to see how it would fit into the handlebar. It would not fit. The outer diameter on both parts of the expansion fitting was larger than the interior diameter of the stock Suzuki handlebar.

Added some colourful metaphors and headed to the bench grinder. I used the wheel on the grinder to gently and slowly reduce the OD on the expansion fittings until they would fit into the bar end snugly. Time to put the assembly all together and fit it into the bar. A few light taps with a plastic mallet set the assembly properly into the bar. I then tightened up the bar end bolt to verify that the Kaoko would in fact do its job and to my pleasant surprise, it worked as advertised. I then engaged in some dark magic to get the other end of the Barkbuster arm to connect up to the bar bracket and all is together and working properly.

I would propose clearer documentation on the website for buyers, especially when the description says that the Kaoko works with Barkbusters and does not clearly state that if you have Barkbusters that come with bar end weights that it will not work.

I would also propose that the fitting that comes in the Kaoko kit which is not particularly sophisticated for nearly $200 actually fit in the handlebar of the bike that the unit is allegedly built for.

I have a Kaoko on back order for my Diavel. Will be sure to leave myself plenty of time to do the install even though it should be existing bar end off, new one on. (Posted on 7/16/2019)

One of the few Throttle Locks available for 2015 V-Strom 1000.
I purchased this in anticipation of a road trip......naturally.
The instructions need a bit more clarity. There may have been key points missed through translation, especially the IMPORTANT part about the handle bar SEAM WELD. if you don't pay attention to this, it will vibrate loose.
Nevertheless, it seems to do what it is designed to do. (Posted on 7/22/2017)
